24 October 2004 - What is Kerry's claim to fame? Dear Editor, I continue to be amazed at how some poor, misguided folks continue to parrot the Kerry line. If insults and attacks against our president weren't enough, Kerry and his minions have reached the point of desperation and are resorting to outright lies about President Bush. Kerry's record is certainly nothing to brag about. Perhaps that's why he never mentions it. If his goals are a reflective of his record, Americans could look forward to higher taxes, a two trillion dollar socialized health care system and a foreign policy based on what the UN wants us to do. Kerry will institute a highly secularized society where abortion and same-sex marriages are common, public recognition of our Creator is silenced and more government limitations on personal freedoms We will continue to be dependent on foreign oil, our foreign alliances will be for foreign benefit and our defense and intelligence services will be gutted. These are not my opinions, they are based on Kerry's voting record for the past 20 years. Here is a man with five multi-million dollar mansions, a large yacht, a fleet of SUVs and the life style of the 1% of the richest Americans. So far, John Kerry has been all talk, and absolutely no substance. George Bush inherited an economy going sour, further weakened by a stock market crash. And then were attacked by godless terrorists. These events took nearly two million jobs out of our economy. We are still fighting a war that began on 9/11 and so far, we have helped introduce freedom and democracy to Afghanistan and Iraq. The economy has improved ever since we received the greatest tax reduction in history. Perhaps the Kerry crowd thrives on rhetoric and seeks instant gratification for complex problems. Abraham Lincoln said that "...you can fool some of the people some of the time..." It appears he was right. Some folks appear to be so intoxicated with Kerry's promises that they willingly enjoy being fooled. I see nothing that Kerry has ever done during his 20-year government career to give me any measure of confidence. I do, however, believe that he will do exactly what he says if he is elected...and that's the really scary part. I have seen progress under the Bush administration and I am more than willing to stay the course for four more years. Derick S. Hartshorn Conover, NC
