1 November 2005 - Pro-DEATH forces are suddenly energized Dear Editor, It appears that a political war is about to begin. The lines have been drawn and the left wing radicals have thrown down the gauntlet. Forty-four senators voted against John Roberts, a man eminently qualified as a Supreme Court justice. This gives some idea of their fear and hatred liberals have of a strict constitutional constructionist. Now they are ready to attack Judge Alito for the same reasons. Their supporters in the so-called People for the American Way, NOW and other fringe radicals are prepared to do battle with whomever the president chooses to replace Sandra Day O'Connor. Their litmus test appears to be a perceived threat to the reining in of abortion mills. Their rabid minions in NARAL are foaming at the mouth, awaiting the opportunity to pour millions into a campaign to defeat anyone but a liberal justice of their choice. These are the same folks that support animal rights and are opposed to the death penalty for capital crimes. They also support the removal of any reminder of God from our daily lives. The National Abortion Rights Action League currently uses the title, NARAL Pro-Choice America, rather than using their chartered name, as if there is an inherent right to kill a viable human being. This organization and the frenzied legislators who support them insist that the destruction of a living human being, right up to full term is mandated by the U.S. Constitution. They don't want the birth mother, or anyone else, to concede that "late term abortions" are among the most gruesome procedures imaginable. It involves crushing the skull of the unborn child and suctioning the brain out. The remains are discarded as "medical waste." These fanatics demand a Supreme Court justice who sanctions this barbaric practice. They are prepared to spend unlimited sums of money to preserve the practice of infanticide. If their claim is for personal freedom and "Pro-Choice" why is it that an innocent life is always taken? Why don't they call it what it really is: premeditated murder? Derick S. Hartshorn Conover, NC
