1965 TDY to SUBIC BAY

MNCM Jim Powers (on the right) and MN1 Don Jones man the fish fighting chairs on a fishing trip out of NAS, Cubi Point, P. I. Minutes later, with MNC John Wead in the chair a 300 lb. Pacific Blue Marlin was hooked and landed 2.5 hours later. After the marlin was aboard, Chief Wead broke his leg while celebrating his catch. The captain recommended Wead sell the fish at the fish market. We got back late, so the fish was kept in a battery reefer overnight. Since it wasn't fresh out of the water Wead only got $40 for it. We should have released it and let it live to fight another day.
