Charles Oren HARTSHORN Jr. was born on 7 Jun 1913. He died on 10 Jul 1991 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. HARTSHORN Charles "Charlie" O., born June 7, 1913, passed away Wednesday July 10th, 1991 at the age of 78. He had been a resident of Oklahoma City for the past 40 years. Before he and his late wife, Lela O. Hartshorn, had moved to Oklahoma City, he had been associated with Boys Town of Missouri and the American Red Cross in Kansas City and St. Louis. He had retired from the American Red Cross in 1978, after 47 years as the Director of Water Safety and First Aid Programs and Disaster Services Coordinator before retiring from the Oklahoma County Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was known to many as "Mr. Red Cross" in Oklahoma because of many hours dedicated to teaching water safety and first aid. He had attained many great achievements in his lifetime, some being his winning of a Silver Medal in U.S. Olympic tryouts for the 1932 World Olympics in swimming, being made Honorary Chief of the Oklahoma City Fire Department, the Oklahoma City Police Department and the Warr Acres Police Department. One of his greatest pleasures was being active in the training of the Oklahoma City Fire Department, the Oklahoma City Police Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. His friendship with the Oklahoma City Fire Department was always one of his most cherished. He often would go to multiple alarm fires or drownings to aid the firemen with first aid and whatever needed to be done for the victims and their families. In 1978, he was made a life member of Retired Oklahoma City Firefighters Association. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lela O. Hartshorn.

He is survived by a foster daughter, Rosemary Featherly and her husband, Fritz Featherly, a grandson, Trey Featherly, all of Yukon; one sister, Marie Armstrong of Madison, Mo.; two nephews, Charles Thompson of Nevada and Bill Levin of Missouri; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 12th, in the chapel at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home with interment following the services at Resurrection Cemetery. Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Rose Hill 6006 N. Grand Blvd. 848-3744
