Tracy, [IA] Nov. 6, -Died, at her home near Tracy at four o'clock a. m., Nov. 2, 1899, Mrs. Martha Hartshorn, at the age of 43 years and 20 days.
Martha E. Ruple was born Oct. 8, 1858, near Tracy, and has resided in this community all her live. She was married to B. W. Hartshorn, July 23, 1876. To this union were born four sons, who were all privileged to be at home when the mother passed beyond.
Deceased has been a member of the M. E. church since her youth, and by her life adorned her profession of faith.
For twenty years she has been in poor health, and at times in intense pain, but she bore it all with Christian fortitude and resignation. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and was held in high esteem by her friends. Her parents and tree sisters have preceded her to the spirit land, while her husband and four sons survive to cherish the memory of a Christian wife and mother.
The funeral sermon was preached by her pastor, Samuel Thero, in the church at Tracy, in the presence of a large congregation of sympathetic friends. The Rebekah sisterhood conducted ritual services at her grave in Bellefontaine cemetery, where she rests in peace until the earth and sea shall give up their dead. (11-8-1899-unnamed newspaper)
