3. Amos HARTSHORN was born on 24 Mar 1799 in Kent County, Delaware. He served in the military in 1861/62 in Civil War.6 In spite of his age, Amos (according to Graves Registration: b: 1798, Delaware) served in the civil war. He is recorded as enlisting 13 Dec 1861 at age 45 (actually, 63) and was discharged 23 Jul 1862. He served in Co. K, 63rd Ohio Volunteers and was discharged on account of disability, 23 July 1862 at Cincinnati. His next of kin was listed as George W. Sloane of Graysville. No other Amos from this part of Ohio served in the civil war and it is highly unusual that a man of age 63 would either volunteer or be able to serve. He died on 9 Jan 1879 in Soldier's Home, Dayton, Ohio. He was buried on 9 Jan 1879 in Soldier's Home Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.

Amos HARTSHORN and Mary FARLEY were married before 1822 in Monroe Co., Ohio. Mary FARLEY (daughter of Andrew FARLEY and Sarah FARLEY) was born about 1806 near Washington Co., Pennsylvania. She died before 1830. Amos HARTSHORN and Mary FARLEY had the following children:
