First Generation

1. David HARTSON1 was born on 3 Jan 1774 in Waterbury, New Haven, Connecticut.2 Listed as "Daniel" in Anderson's "History of Waterbury." He died on 26 Jan 1852 in Elkhorn, Walworth Co., Wisconsin. David is said to have been in Paris, NY before 1795, though he may have returned to Connecticut for short periods afterward. We find vague references to him as a first settler in Paris, NY. There is at least one deed in Paris Twp., and other deeds recorded at Utica, Oneida Co., 1804, 1806, 1810. He is listed with the Militia 1809-1814 in Paris, NY. With most of his family (except three who had been living with or near Conn. relatives) he had left for Trumbull County, Ohio, soon after 1820. He lived in Ohio until 184?, when he went with several sons to Wisconsin, and settled in Elkhorn, Walworth Co. In the census of 1850, he is listed as David Hartson ae 76, in the home of E. Brainard, his son-in-law.

Though his children made record of his death, there is now no Cemetery or death record in Elkhorn. But they do not have record of the death of Olive. who was not living in 1850 (Census), and suppose she must have died before they emigrated to Wisconsin. Complete records of some of these descendants of David-6 Hartson have been gathered by one of them, the late Ms. Cecil E. Lundy of California, who offered some of the items here given. Mrs. Lundy gave valued assistance in checking some of the older records also. But even her patient search did not discover the identity of Olive b: 1775, wife of David6 Hartson.

One of the lines here that can conveniently be brought down to living male Hartsons is that of Isaac-8 (Horatio-7,David-6), b: 1830 in Vienna, Ohio, and who d: 1908 in Newchester, Wis. Isaac m: Lydia Bloss of Adams Co., Wis., who d: 1902. One of their children was:

Charles-9 Hartson b: 1860 d: 1940, Hamilton, Mont. m: Leonora Hyatt who d: 1944, in Hamilton. ch: living in Kalispell, Mont., et al
-------
Fred Hartson, b: 1886, had 2 sons, one named David
Mildred Hartson, b: 1887
Ruby Hartson, b: 1888 m: Roy Stitzel who d: 1940
Alice Hartson, b: 1890
Harley Hartson, b: 1896, had 2 sons living in 1946

Mrs. Stitzel, above, furnishes a copy of a letter to David-6 Hartson, from his effects, kept in the family of his daughter Harriet, and in the family of his son John afterward:

Vienna, Ohio January 17,1830

Honored Father I thought I would Write a few lines to you and let you know how the times are going on here with us, we are all tolerable well for us.
